Review: 'Until We Collide' by Charlotte Fallowfield (2016)

What do you do when the guy you’re in love with is seeing someone else?

That’s the dilemma facing Paige Taylor. All of her life she’s only ever had eyes for the gorgeous Alec Wright, but despite their undeniable chemistry, their timing has always been off. Fast approaching her thirtieth birthday, Paige despairs of ever finding love and a happy ever after. Her best friend Poppie tells her that she can either watch life pass her by, or grab it with both hands. She convinces Paige to throw herself back into the dating pool, or she could be waiting for Alec forever.

What Paige didn’t expect was the catalogue of dating disasters to follow. A neck brace, jelly fish, stitches, flashing and an encounter with a gorilla were some of the most memorable. Despite some downright hilarious, humiliating and cringe worthy dates, her biological clock is ticking and Paige is determined to keep trying until she finds the one.

Was Alec Wright always her Mr. Right, or is he still out there waiting to be found?

Oh, just look at that lovely book cover! Don't you just want to stroke it? I know I do; one glance at this cover was enough for me to say 'yes' to the review request e-mail I received from author Charlotte Fallowfield not too long ago. After a bit of research online I discovered Charlotte Fallowfield is the alter-ego of author C.J. Fallowfield, an Amazon #1 UK and international bestselling author of contemporary humorous erotic romance novels. Her debut novel 'New Leaves, No Strings' was released January 2014, and 'Until We Collide' is the first of her romantic comedy novels to hit the shelves. I was curious to give it a go and hoped I'd end up enjoying it!

Paige Taylor fell head over heels in love with Alec Wright when she was just a teenager. Alec was everything Paige dreamt of, and when she finally managed to get him to notice her, she was over the moon. Until she got an amazing opportunity to live abroad for some time after graduating from school, an opportunity she couldn't possible say 'no' to. Since then, Paige hasn't been lucky in the romance department, to say the least, and she can't help but think Alec was the one for her, the one that got away but that she can't stop thinking about. Convinced by her friend Poppie, Paige knows she has to keep on dating because you never know what you might find. But is there really no hope left for her and Alec...?

'Until We Collide' is Charlotte Fallowfield's first romantic comedy novel and taking that into account, I though it was quite an enjoyable and fun read. The book focuses on main character Paige and her search for love; she fell head over heels in love with Alec when she was just a teenager, but time has never been on their side and now, when she's 30 years old, she's still single. I really liked joining Paige on her dating adventures and getting to know her from a young age, because the author uses quite a number of flashbacks to show all stages of Paige's life. Paige is quite a character and gets herself in some funny situations and I was definitely interested enough to keep on reading and discover what would happen to her and where the story would end.

While I liked the storyline of this novel I couldn't help but miss the chemistry between Paige and Alec. With a story like this, the sparks really need to be obvious between the characters but I personally didn't really feel that. I also thought the characters were a bit one-dimensional; everything stayed at the surface and I just didn't feel as if I really got to know Paige and the people around her. However, that being said, I did enjoy this read and think it's a promising first step into the chick lit world by author Charlotte Fallowfield. Her next novel will be released in February 2017 and I'd love to get a chance to read it. Overall, 'Until We Collide' is an enjoyable, fun, and not too complicated romantic comedy read about the one that got away; a chick lit read that wasn't 100% for me, but one I'm sure many other readers will love.
Rating:8/10
